Well actually all the Asian Studies girls bar me finished this year and we all passed our subjects with flying colours, I got two credits and two distinctions π
So Andrea had a happening shin dig at her place on saturday night. Drinks, Pizza, old friends, new friends, Midori and Kiwi fruit, cameras and of course who could not forget Mr Berg π Go check out the photos
The party was the best I think I have ever gone too, small space, lots of talk, lots of drink, lots of laughs π Love ya Andie π
Helen in all her craftiness is slowly making gifts to be given out and Andrea’s was the first to be completed so she got hers last night. The bag is made from denim and Japanese cotton, the pattern is based on Amy Butler’s Nappy Bag but a whole lot smaller and less pockets.
I also learnt how to free motion machine quilt on this bag, I used something like 3 or 4 bobbins doing the quilting on both sides of the bag.
this is beautiful, helen! I love the colors, the fabric and the stitching. what a really great gift!
Helen… I totally LOVE my bag.. but you know that already π I still haven’t put it down! :D:D I’m soo glad that you had fun on Saturday night, it was so great to have you there π
That looks so cool! I love how the stitching makes it look nice and textured π I’ve always wondered how people free-motion – do you just lift the foot up and move the fabric around manually?
Hi Catherine π
What you do is drop the feed dogs, so the fabric can move in any direction and then use a freehand quilting foot such as
http://www.bernina.co.uk/accessrs/Feet/pages/Quilting.htm so that the fabric layers are held together whilst you quilt, of course the key is to be able to keep your stitches at a regular length. π It is a lot of fun but frustrating as well when you happen to move the fabric in the wrong way π
Helen’s Mum here. I am very pleased with her free motion quilting, but she did begin free motion quilting when she was in about yr 8 or 9. Does she remember the day? Love Mum
