Ever since I saw the Fairy Bread cake on Raspberri Cupcakes, I knew I had to make it, and I knew it would be the perfect birthday cake for one of girls at work. If only her birthday would hurry up!
I used the butter cake recipe from the AWW Birthday Cake book, which is frankly the best butter cake recipe ever and iced it with a white chocolate butter cream.
I baked the butter cake in a square cake pan and then cut into smaller triangles, to more accurately represent fairy bread quarters. 🙂
Winning cake all round.
#thissundaylife is #fairybread cake because frankly it is darn smart way to eat fairy bread when in double digits.
Four years ago, I woke thinking it would just be like any other Saturday.
It would be a day of markets, washing and maybe some baking.
Instead, it was not.
Four years ago, I went to sleep that night without a Papa.
Pabbi, so much has happened in the last four years.
I’m finally working in tax.
Karl is still in Iceland.
Mamma moved to the bush.
Matthew has taken over your space in the laundry.
There is a super cute little boy next door now.
The birds still play in the bird bath in the back yard.
You would hardly recognise the interior of the house now.
Miss you Pappa-san
The mock oranges (Murraya paniculata ‘Exotica’ or orange jessamine) in the front yard and all across Brisbane bloomed in the last few days.
On Sunday, there were no flowers, just thousands of swollen buds ready to burst with the off white petals and that scent which just screams Brisbane.
On Monday, the trees had started to open up the flower buds. Â The scent started to spread in the air.
On Tuesday, the trees were covered in a mass of flowers and the white carpet was starting to form on the patio and lawn.
This morning, as I opened the front door at 6:30 to welcome the day into the house I was hit with that mock orange perfume, it spread through the kitchen and said “autumn is here”. I watched as petals gently danced in the breeze to the patio and lawn below to form that white carpet which we all know so well.
