crazy in pastels

well I didn’t scrapbook today instead I drew. Inspired by Elizabeth Ruuska and Allison Strine and countless others, I made this 10" by 10" canvas for Sean, I had planned on giving it to him as a going away present in a couple of weeks when we leave for Iceland, but will probably give it to him tomorrow instead. I had not drawn, drawn in ages and it felt good. I blocked the image onto the canvas using a photograph as a guide. I then realised I had no white paint so a trip to the shops where in order and library on the way. Well I was in the art store and saw the pastels section, and all ideas I had of using paints were out the door. I picked up a 48 pack of oil pastels that were on sale – for $2 more than the 24 pack! easy choice there. Got home and started on it.  Oh I have had a ball! I am not entirely happy with how I drew Sean, especially his eye and the shadows on his face but for my first attempt I am mighty proud, Mum thought it was cool too πŸ™‚

new layouts

The last couple of days I have been unleashing my spirit. Trying new things and re-discovering old ideas. This quote comes to mind.

What we love to do we find time to do.Β

John L. Spalding

Which is so true, sometime I dislike scrapbooking, times when I have other things to do, or am not feeling anything for my photos, it is then I just step back and let the bubble start to grow for my next session.

Yesterday I did four layouts, the day before I did two or three, the day before that I did two or three as well. Here are some of them, some are on 2peas, some aren’t. These layouts are me re-discovering, re-energising.

cooking by numbers

I found cooking by numbers, a fair while ago, but then lost it in my bookmarks and after endless searches and asking for it on 2peas, I found it tonight from a links page on a links page on a links page. So happy to have it back in my life πŸ™‚

4 digital + 3 film = a photographic family

This morning our house entered the world of having a digital for all of us. Today, Matthew bought a Canon Ixus 40, it is so small and cute, I can see myself "stealing it" when I go out clubing some nights, will fit in the handbag way better πŸ™‚

Our Camera List.

Helen – Canon Eos 350d, Canon  Eos 300, Quadcam

Mum – Olympus Mju zoom 170

Pabbi – Fuji Finepix s5500, Olympus Camedia c-350

Matthew – Canon Ixus 40

Plus 3 or 4 old bodies and lenses of pabbi’s that no longer work.

Yeah we are a photography house for sure πŸ™‚

State of Origin 1

matthew

Matthew went to the first State of Origin game tonight, played in QLD and of course QLD won πŸ™‚ 24-20. Not an Origin fan myself, as I am not a fan of League myself, but I do like seeing everyone dressing up and the rivalry between NSW and QLD fans.
Minute by Minute at Fox Sports, In fact I am sitting here in a Wallbies jersey πŸ™‚

Explored fill flash today, both on the walk home in the park, in this photo here of Matthew before he went off to the game. Really like it, going to have to play some more with it for sure.

cooking.

In the last 8 nights I have eaten at home for 6 of them and was in charge of preparing them for 4 nights. I am pretty impressed with myself but not with the person who is not pulling his weight around the here.

Matthew helped me out tonight and we created a variation on Helen Staple – Stir Fry Veg/fruit with cous cous.

Simply I love Cous Cous, it is so utterly quick and simple to prepare – x parts cous cous to a little bit less than x parts boiling water, cover and allow to stand till water is absorbed. So, so easy.

The variation tonight was.

Carrots, Onion, Celery, Shallots, Mushroom, Capsicum, Lamb (taken off Forequarter chops) with some Garam Masala and Honey. Some people like to gradually add the veg, but I am firm believer in adding everything except Mushrooms at the same time.

Previous Variations have included Turkey Chops with Tomato added and Moroccan seasoning. Another was Tuna, Cous Cous, tinned tomato, fresh beetroot and assorted veg.

Essentially it is what ever veg/fruit and meat is in the house with what ever seasoning takes my fancy in the cupboard, served of course with Mesclun Leaves dressed with Newman’s Own Caeser Dressing (because salad dressing is not meant to be creamy – another rule of the Palsson kitchen). Enjoy.
