I had the most enjoyable time the last few weeks at work decorating Level 12 for Christmas. There was originally to be a competition between the two floors but due to the drama involving the contract transition as the Chandler Mcleod staff faced uncertainty as to their future it was called off. I still kept on decorating though 😀 This is what Lv 12 ended up looking like. One of the doctors is quite a Christmas nut and brought in a heap of decorations for us to use. One of my most favourite had to be the garland we had across the counter.
Sadly yesterday we had to take it all down. Gosh the floor looks empty and bland now!
Today was one of those weird days.
It started with a blood test to hopefully sort out this issue.
Then brunch with a friend at Indro and finishing off the Christmas shopping.
Spending close to an hour at Spotlight in the line and then getting a refund sorted.
Going to Mum’s to use the oven and me not having my baking head screwed on properly.
Wondering what on earth is going through the head of my younger brother….
Wishing it would rain and storm but only getting a drizzle.
I decided it would be a really nice, cooling and mind clearing to take lay on the grass in the back yard on a yoga mat with some Thelonius Monk, a pillow and a candle. It was really nice till the mozzies and bitey bugs realised where I was…..
Tomorrow is Sunday and we shall see what the day brings.
I had a second go at making brittle tonight and it was much more successful than the first as I didn’t get the temperature hot enough on the first batch. This time though I reached and maintained crack and now I have a tray each of hazelnut brittle and pistachio brittle. So Good!
I was extremely lucky that Karl managed to find me a biscuit extruder piece in Iceland so I was able to make Loftkökur myself on my mixer in my house. Otherwise I would have had to have used Mum’s mixer and her attachment. When it arrived though, the extruder piece did not fit through the opening on the mincer. I was lucky that my cousin was able to take it in to the shed and shave off some of the plastic and now it fits. I made about five trays of Loftkökur tonight and I had forgotten all about the hit of ammonia you get when you open the oven door for the first time. Youch!
I also rolled about a third of a batch of the the apricot/sunshine balls but after rolling three batches of rum balls yesterday my poor hands couldn’t cope!
On a side note I’m not at all happy with QR at the moment. Last night they pressure cleaned that station (It does look a whole lot cleaner now) but oh the noise!!! It was so bad that closing all the doors and windows only made a minor difference. It got to a point where I ended up taking a Mersyndol to dull the headache it was giving me and to put me to sleep as I had tried for about two hours to go to sleep. Normally when QR is doing track or station work we get a leaflet in the letterbox advising of us such. We didn’t get a leaflet for last night, which makes me really unimpressed. Let me tell you that I’m ringing QR tomorrow to have a wee chat!
My eyes are currently telling me it is time to go to bed, the cake in the oven though is telling me something else. According to the recipe it still has about 10 mins to go, knowing my oven that could be anywhere between another 10 to 50 mins. I can smell the ginger wafting through the house and oh it smells good. This afternoon I also made my first batch of peanut brittle – should have doubled the recipe but other than that fairly good.
I came across a link to this dress on some blog the other day. Is it not just one of the most gorgeous dresses you have seen? I would love to wear this to a party and the ballet and dinner and the shops etc etc.
I’m still breathing, still taking a photo a day (today is day 147!! when I tried the other year I only got to day 75). Christmas is just about upon us and as per usual I’m excited and planning all sorts of things. To bring things up to speed here are photos 62-147. Just a few! If you would prefer to be able to read the comments first, here is the Flickr link
I will post some more Bali and Sydney later.
We had a really fast flight home – only about 5hrs compared to the 6.5 odd hrs on the way there. Still got home to my parents round midnight. It was still too early to crash so we watched the Glee dvd we had picked up, had Vegemite toast then it was time to crash. Sunday morning we went to Sizzlers for real aussie buffet breakfast, then it was time to drop Sam off at the airport and head home to unpack, wash, sleep etc before heading back to work yesterday…..
I wouldn’t mind been back there …. I miss my mango juices…
